Nitrous Oxide & Oral Sedation

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves using sedation methods to help you feel calmer and more relaxed during your time at our office. We understand that some patients feel nervous about visiting the dentist, and we want to provide you with a dental experience that is as comfortable as possible. We offer two main types of sedation dentistry at: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

What is nitrous oxide?

Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is a mild sedative gas. To help you feel more at ease during your treatment, you will simply breathe in through a small mask that we will place over your nose. The nitrous oxide, which is mixed with oxygen, will help you feel more relaxed, and some patients even feel a tingling or floating sensation. Nitrous oxide is very safe and the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after the end of the treatment.

What is oral sedation?

Oral sedation involves taking a sedative pill before your visit to our office. By the time of your appointment, you will feel calm and at ease. Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation, meaning that you will remain conscious during your treatment; however, you may not remember all of the details of your visit.
