If you will be having dental treatment any time soon, there some common recovery tips which will help you after the treatment. Naturally, Dr. Cha and Dr. Dinh will tell you what you should do after your treatment, but we’re happy to give you a few ideas on what you should expect after common treatments.
Filling: As you may know, a dental filling restoration is a fairly simple treatment that can be completed in one appointment. However, after you have a cavity placed, we recommend staying away from hot and cold foods. In the beginning, extreme hot and cold temperatures can damage your new filling.
Crown: After your crown is placed, you should avoid biting down on it for at least an hour as the cement that keeps your crown in place needs time to harden. Also, after you have crowns, we recommend avoiding sticky sweets like taffy, as they can pull your crown off. For a few days you may experience some sensitivity.
Extraction: Finally, if you have a tooth extraction, there are a few general rules you should follow. For example, you should keep your mouth firmly closed to apply pressure on your gauze and prevent bleeding. You will also want to avoid using a straw, smoking, or using a pipe for at least 24 hours after surgery. Remember to apply ice packs periodically to reduce swelling, though you shouldn’t keep them on your cheek for more than ten minutes at a time.
